As sculpted and well-defined profiles continue to define the beauty standard, many of my clients question how to target imperfections on their necks and jawlines. A problem area for many, the neck and jawline region can store excess fat and show clear signs of aging. However, as advancements in cosmetic procedures continue to emerge, there are several in-office procedures and techniques to address concerns related to sagging skin, uneven texture and excess fat in the neck and jawline.
Each of these treatments has slightly different intended results and levels of permanence, so you can choose the best option for you depending on your specific goals.
Botox
As the first FDA-approved treatment for smoothing frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines, Botox can also smooth and lift your jawline and neck areas. When injected into the neck or jaw, Botox relaxes the muscles in the jaw and tightens skin on the neck, slimming down the jaw and neck, while reducing sagging skin. Results from Botox can show within a couple of days and last up to four months.
Kybella
Unlike Botox, Kybella’s sole purpose is to target fat in the chin region, slimming the chin and tightening the jawline. A deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring acid in human and animal gut, Kybella works by destroying fat cells. For permanent results, Kybella must be injected in a series of treatment sessions. The number of sessions is dependent upon the amount of fat under the chin.
Renuva
Rather than removing fat, Renuva injects fat that can help build out volume in the chin or smooth and tighten neck skin if injected into the neck. This injected fat, known as allograft adipose matrix, contains the same collagens, growth factors and proteins as human fat and is replaced by the patient’s own fat over time. Visible results from Renuva are immediate and can last several years.
Sculptra
An injectable bio stimulator, Sculptra binds collagen-producing cells to stimulate collagen production. This can help lift the jawline and neck while restoring facial volume. While visible results can take four to six weeks, they can last up to two years.
Radiesse
Similar to Sculptra, Radiesse has collagen-stimulating properties, in addition to filler. As a denser filler, Radiesse can be used for cheek, jawline, NSL fold, chin and hand augmentation. By injecting it into the chin, Radiesse can augment and define the chin. When injected into the neck, it can help tighten and improve the texture of the skin. Results are immediate and can last around a year.
