What is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure where tiny threads are inserted at different spots to stitch up portions of facial tissue with sag and laxity, producing a “lift” in the skin. The threads are then cut, leaving you with a beautiful lift and hidden absorbable sutures. Thread procedures also signal a healing response in your body, sending collagen to the treated areas. While thread procedures are typically used for lifting, they can also be utilized to help with skin texture, reduce skin scarring and diminish fine lines and wrinkles.
Benefits of Thread Lifts
One of the main reasons that thread lifts are so appealing is because they require little to no downtime, unlike a traditional facelift or other complex procedures! When you receive a thread lift, there is no cutting, sewing or general anesthesia, meaning you can leave the office as soon as the procedure is finished. Minimal bruising may occur, but other than that, there are no visible signs or side effects of a thread lift.
Another benefit of thread lifting is that it can be combined with other anti-aging treatments to help you achieve your desired look! They combine successfully with chemical peels, micro-needling, Botox and dermal fillers. Plus, it can be repeated if you need touch-ups or want a more lifted look later on.
Thread lift procedures often give patients fast results that last a long time! Unlike other procedures that need regular touch-ups, thread lifts can last one to three years or longer. As the threads dissolve, they also stimulate collagen, giving you plumper, healthier skin with long-lasting effects.
When your thread lift is finished, you should be left with diminished fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin laxity, feel and texture, and all-around tighter-looking skin.
The Different Types of Threads
The two main types of threads I use are NovaThreads and Miracu Threads. NovaThreads are patented, USA-made threads that undergo a rigorous quality control process, ensuring consistency and reliability in every aspect. They are made of PDO (polydioxanone), a biodegradable polyester, which safely absorbs into the skin in around six months. Miracu Threads are super-fine, FDA-approved, medical-grade sutures. They are also made of PDO and safely absorb into the skin within six months.
What to Expect
Before receiving a thread lift, we will have a consultation to review any concerns or questions you may have. General anesthesia is not required, but local anesthesia can be used so that you do not feel any pain.
During the procedure, a thin needle, called a cannula, is used to insert the threads into various points in your skin, depending on your desired effect. The whole procedure takes around an hour, and you’re free to leave when it’s finished.
After your procedure, minimal bruising or swelling may occur, but this can be countered with ice packs or cold compresses. You will immediately notice initial firming and lifting, with results improving over the next few weeks.
